Get Used to Disappointment

But don’t worry about there being any with the following films.

There was a brief round on Twitter this morning discussing movies that never get old. The idea was movies that you could watch again and again. There are several movies I could have put on my list but given the limitation of 140 characters, I stuck with four – The Princess Bride, Unforgiven, Eight Men Out, and Casablanca. I’ve already posted on Unforgiven. Eight Men Out is the story of the Chicago White Sox (aka the Black Sox) throwing the world series. Casablanca, well, is Casablanca. Shame on you if you consider yourself a movie fan and haven’t seen it.

The Princess Bride is a comedy. You might call it a romantic comedy but if so you have to be aware that it really doesn’t fit the general format of that genre. Yes, there is kissing, to Fred Savage’s chagrin, but it is much more about the comedy than the romance. This is one of my favorite scenes, though to be honest if you’ve not seen the movie you should stop now and go rent it.
